The Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS Sofia) announces a Call for Applications for its 2012/2013 In-Residence Advanced Academia Fellowships in the fields of the humanities and the social sciences.

OBJECTIVE
CAS Sofia is an independent Institute with international and multidisciplinary profile. Located in Sofia,Bulgaria, it promotes high-level scholarship in the social sciences and the humanities. In addition to supporting focus-group research, CAS Sofia invites outstanding scholars to pursue their individual research projects during in-residence periods of up to five months. The invited Fellows participate in the intellectual life and the scholarly community of the Centre (Bulgarian and foreign fellows) while working on projects of their own choice. Fellows receive adequate material and intellectual support and can profit from the Centre’s wide international networks, international seminar- and guest-lecturer programme. CAS Sofia assists Fellows in all practical matters concerning travel, residence and research in Sofia.

FORMAT
For the academic year 2012/2013 CAS Sofia provides in-residence fellowships of two- to five- month duration to post-doctoral non-Bulgarian researchers. Junior as well as Senior scholars are invited to apply.

The selected Fellows are entitled to:

A monthly stipend of 700 euro (liable to 10% income tax) to cover living expenses related to the stay in Sofia.
Accommodation in Sofia, comprising living quarters and working space. The Fellows will also have free access to the CAS library and electronic resources/databases.
Travel allowance (400 euro)
Research expenses (100 euro p.m.)

DURATION AND CONDITIONS
Candidates must indicate the preferred fellowship duration and its starting date within the following periods:
I. 1 March 2012 – 31 July 2012
II. 1 October 2012 – 28 February 2013

The selected Fellows will take part in the regular Fellow seminars and the other scientific events organized by the Centre (workshops, conferences, lectures, etc.) and are invited to present and discuss their project in lectures or seminars. The results of their work shall be summarized in a paper (in English), to be published in the electronic CAS Working Paper Series.

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must

Be non-Bulgarian citizens;
Have completed a PhD in the fields of the humanities and social sciences;
International research experience (participation in projects and refereed conferences) and publications in peer-reviewed academic editions are strong advantages.

WORKING LANGUAGE
As an international academic institution CAS conducts most of its work in English which is also the language of the presentations of research results. Therefore, a good command of English is highly desirable.

For Junior scholars (up to 12 years after PhD defense) only: two letters of recommendation by scholars familiar with the applicant’s academic work should be faxed/mailed/emailed to CAS by the referees.

SELECTION PROCEDURE
The selection will be carried out by the international Academic Council of CAS based on evaluation of the potential of the candidate relative to his/her career stage and the quality of the proposed project. The Academic Council reserves the right, in cases of candidatures with equal quality, to grant advantage to candidates that have not been CAS Fellows within the preceding 3 years / have not repeatedly held CAS fellowships in the past.

n. 1 scholarship funded by the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK), directed to the following research subject: “Development of microdevices for 3D cell micro-culture and for purification and analysis of nucleic acids, i.e. materials and structures aimed at the isolation of miRNA, small RNA and mutated DNA from cell fluids deriving 3D cell cultures.” The PhD will be carried out at the “Biofunctional Surfaces and Interfaces” unit of the Materials and Microsystems Center at FBK which mainly works on the functionalization of surfaces for bio-applications. The focus of the research will be the development of functional surfaces to be possibly included in micro-devices with the aim to isolate and specifically detect small RNAs, such as microRNAs. Through the collaboration with hospitals it will be possible to assess if microRNAs could be used as novel circulating biomarkers for cancer diagnostics.

Reserved Scholarships: the assignment of these grants requires a specific suitability to be evaluated during the oral exam:

n. 1 scholarship funded by The Microsoft Research – University of Trento Centre for Computational and Systems Biology (COSBI), reserved for the research project: “Mechanistic modeling of genetic and signaling networks connecting diet and diseases relying on mouse models of human disease.” The candidate is expected to build an algorithmic model (see http://www.cosbi.eu/index.php/research/alg-sys-bio) of the folate cycle or other mechanisms that are related to obesity, relying on experimental data. Our software tool will be used to fit experimental data. A master’s degree in bioinformatics, bioengineering or biophysics with basic knowledge of programming a mathematics is requested.

n. 1 scholarship funded by the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK), reserved for the research project “Computational Functional Genomics”. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in developing an interdisciplinary expertise in computational methods for high-throughput functional genomics, with special attention to next generation sequencing. Some basic knowledge of the mechanisms of regulation at DNA, RNA (miRNA), and protein levels and of standard DNA/RNA sequencing concepts is required. Intermediate or higher IT skills are expected in algorithmics for bioinformatics, programming languages (Python and C as baseline), competence in the use of *nix O.S., in interacting with databases, use of standard bioinformatics tools, knowledge of the R statistical and visualization environment. Basic mathematics competence should cover calculus linear algebra. Bases of statistical machine learning are also required. Preference will be given to a candidate with a Master degree (Laurea magistrale/specialistica or equivalent) in Mathematics, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics or Bioengineering.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applications for the doctoral positions are accepted from candidates, regardless of gender, age and nationality, who have an Italian “laurea specialistica” or “laurea magistrale” in compliance with Ministerial Decree no. 509 of 3.11.1999 as amended, an university degree of the previously enforced Italian regulations, or an equivalent academic degree obtained abroad. Any degree in scientific areas will be a preferential title.

Applicants holding an Italian degree must submit the degree certificate together with the list of exams and grades obtained.

Applicants holding a foreign degree not officially recognized as equivalent to the Italian “laurea specialistica”, must explicitly request recognition of equivalence in their application by including:
- degree certificate (EU citizens may present a self-declaration of the possession of a degree, according to Presidential Decree no. 445 of 28.12.2000).
- the English translation of the degree certificate (if in a different language) with passed exams, grades obtained and short description of a given academic qualification awarded by an institution located in a foreign country and belonging to an educational system different from the Italian one (i.e. Diploma Supplement, if available), signed under their own responsibility, to enable the PhD School Committee to declare its equivalence, valid solely for the purpose of admission to the selection process.

Applications are also accepted from students who expect to complete their degree by the 18th of October 2011. In this case, the candidates need to present, together with their application, an enrolment certificate with passed exams and grade obtained together with a statement from the University Registrar’s Office declaring that the student is expected to obtain the degree by deadline stated above. In such cases admission is “conditional” and applicants must present the degree certificate, or a declaration that the degree has been conferred (according to Presidential Decree no. 445 of 28.12.2000 applicable only to EU citizens) to the: Secretary of the Doctoral School in Biomolecular Sciences (Address: Via Sommarive, 14 – 38123 POVO -Trento, Italy; Fax: +39 0461 283937) within the 21st of October 2011 or they will be excluded.

The suitability of the candidate for these fellowships will be evaluated during the oral exam.

· any additional qualifications such as international examinations (GRE or equivalent);
· any additional qualifications useful for assessing the applicant’s skills (e.g. prizes, study and postgraduate activities of research, etc.);
· a brief document describing the applicant’s motivations for pursuing this particular doctorate programme (Motivation Letter);
· a brief research project (1000 characters maximum, including spaces) describing the applicant’s research interests (Statement of Research Interest).

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships, Griffith University, Australia

The GUIPRS is designed to attract and support highly ranked international applicants during the University’s two annual postgraduate research scholarship rounds. This scheme extends the provision of tuition fee scholarships beyond the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research allocated International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS).

The GUIPRS covers tuition fees for the student and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the student and their dependant/s. No other expenses are paid by this scheme, however award recipients may seek additional funding from alternative sources. In addition, the scheme also supports international applicants successful in gaining stipend scholarships.

Eligibility
The GUIPRS is available to international students only. Applicants must have completed, or expect to complete, four years of higher education studies at a very high level and be intending to enroll full-time in an approved doctoral or research masters program.

Part-time awards may be offered to students who, for social or medical reasons, are unable to study full-time.

Entry Requirements
This scholarship is open to international applicants only. Applicants must have achieved First Class Honours or equivalent.

Duration
The GUIPRS may be held for up to two years for a research masters program and up to three years for a doctoral program. A six month extension may be granted to doctoral students in certain circumstances.

ACERGY Ocean Engineering Scholarship, Australia

ACERGY are in Western Australia, and are a seabed-to-surface engineering and construction contractor to the offshore oil and gas industry worldwide. They provide integrated services, and plan, design and deliver complex projects in harsh and challenging environments.

ACERGY will offer a competitive Scholarship in 2012 that will include a work placement (November 2011 – February 2012). The scholarship is aimed at potential Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering)degree students that will commence their fourth year in 2012.

Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in the third year of study, show leadership potential, and will also be subject to an interview process with AMC and ACERGY panel, as part of this scholarship award, successful candidates would undertake a work placement between (November 2011 – February 2012) with ACERGY.

The scholarship will provide a stipend of up to $15,000
(The recipient will receive $10,000 during the academic year March to December, and the rate per work day over the summer placement will be $100 per day approx 10 weeks)

The ACERGY Scholarship is offered to one 3rd year AMC student undertaking Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering)

Selection Criteria
Selection for the ACERGY Maritime Engineering Award will be based on the following criteria;

GESA Postgraduate Medical Research Scholarship, Australia

This scholarship is to support a medical graduate, wishing to gain full-time training in methodology pertinent to any aspect of research related to gastroenterology or hepatology disorders, while enrolled for an MD or PhD.

The award is designed for candidates at an early stage in their careers, for example (but not confined to) advanced trainees who have completed core clinical training at the time of taking up the scholarship.

The major conditions and the stipends for this scholarship are identical to those of the NHMRC Research Scholarships.

Eligibility:
The applicant is required to:

Read, understand and agree to all the requirements listed in the 2010 instruction booklet;
Be a current financial member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia, defined as ‘confirmed as a financial member of the society prior to applying for the award’;
Attend the next Australian Gastroenterology Week (AGW) following notification of the award and in each year of tenure;
Correctly complete the application form and lodge it with attachments prior to the closing date.

The proposed supervisor is required to be a current financial member of the Gastroenterological Society of Australia at the time of submission of the application. It is preferred that applicants intend pursing a career in gastroenterology or hepatology. However, the research committee reserves the right to evaluate each application on a case-by-case basis.

Scholarship recipients must provide the Society with a concise summary of their progress by 31 October in each year of the scholarship tenure. Asia University provides a limited number of scholarships each year for talented international students. Free Language Courses

In the recent years, Chinese has gained its status as a world language. No separate application for a scholarship is necessary. An Application for Admission to the University of Sydney in 2012 will constitute an application for a scholarship. All applications meeting the selection and eligibility criteria will be automatically considered.
The deadline for receipt of applications and complete supporting documentation (academic and English language proficiency results) is 31 October 2011 for Semester 1, 2012, and 30 April 2012 (for Semester 2, 2012). Applications received after these deadlines will not be considered.
Selection Criteria

Project description
Eukaryotic cells are mostly diploid, but the chromosome numbers might vary due to defects in maintenance of chromosome stability, as we see often in cancer cells or during aging. The main focus of our research is to understand how eukaryotic cells maintain their chromosome numbers and how they response to the aberrations in chromosome composition. The project would specifically focus on polyploidy and aneuploidy in budding yeast and involves a wide range of techniques from molecular genetics, biochemistry, cell biology to systems biology, thus providing excellent training opportunities. Successful applicant will work in an exciting research environment with access to novel technologies and excellent infrastructure.

Requirements
Candidates with a strong interest in genetics and cell biology are invited. Applicants should be highly motivated and interested to work in a young team of international scientists. Communication skills and good knowledge of the English language are required.

Eligible fields are Business Management and Administration; Tourism and Hospitality Management; Health Professions, including Nursing; Media; Information Technology; Agriculture; and Engineering Science.

ELIGIBILITY
To apply to the program, candidates must:

The Helmholtz Graduate School “Molecular Cell Biology” is a collaboration between the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU), Freie Universität Berlin and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin medical faculty. How does the selection process work?

Applicants will be chosen based on their academic qualification, aptitude, motivation, scientific interest and letters of recommendation.

Complete applications will be reviewed by the PhD office and forwarded to participating group leaders at the MDC and partner institutions.

Short-listed candidates (about 50 candidates) will be invited to Berlin for interview. Travel and Visa expenses are reimbursed and accommodation, including food, for the interview days is covered by the MDC.

The selection week in Berlin includes:

Assessment day (1 day) including a short presentation of a research project to MDC faculty and a panel discussion
Personal interviews (2 days) with faculty members and lab presentations of research group leaders. You are welcome to bring a longer version of your presentation or other useful material for these discussions.
Berlin Tour, Campus Tour, dinners and various occasions to meet faculty and students of the MDC and learn about ongoing research project and the PhD program of the MDC.

At the end of the week, candidates will be asked to give us the names of the research group(s) they would like to join for a PhD project. In a final plenary session all faculty members will determine the candidates that will be accepted to the MDC. Successful candidates will be offered a position according to the candidate’s preferences. Results of the plenary session will be announced within 3 days. We expect the success rate of invited candidates to be 1:3. Successful candidates have 2 weeks to accept or decline this offer. Students may start between December 2011 and May 2012 with their research project.

Salary
Net salaries for MDC students are about 1100 Euro per month, including health insurance coverage. Health insurance is obligatory for students in Germany.

Tuition
There are no tuition fees for PhD students of the MDC. The only fee required is a registration fee at the university, which amounts to around 550 euro per year or 285 euro per semester including a semester ticket for public transport.

Housing
Rent for an apartment or a flat for a single person starts at approx. 300 euro per month. On average our students pay around 400-500 euro for rent (including utilities).

Living costs in Berlin
The estimated costs of living in Berlin per person are approx. 800 euro per month (incl. rent, living expenses, food etc).

The Department offers graduate training in many areas of biology with particular strengths in Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation, Evolution, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Cell and Developmental Biology, Neurobiology, Plant Biology and Bioinformatics.

Graduate programs leading to the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees are offered. The emphasis in both programs is on development of the intellectual and technical skills necessary for independent research. The main component of both degrees is a thesis embodying the results of original research.

Formal course requirements are few and are largely intended to fill gaps in the student’s background.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a B.Sc. in a discipline relevant to the proposed field of study with an overall Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0/4.0 or a CGPA of 3.2/4.0 for the last 2 fulltime academic years of study
Applicants should also have adequate background knowledge in cell and molecular biology (or biochemistry), organismal biology, ecology, developmental biology and statistics
Students are admitted into the program on a full-time basis only

Admission is based on an evaluation by the Graduate Training Committee and acceptance by a research director, who will provide supervisions as well as adequate funding for personal and research expenses. Prospective graduate students are encouraged to contact potential supervisors with whom they wish to study before applying for admission.

Types of Financial Support
All graduate students are fully supported through one or more of the following mechanisms:

To ensure the financial security of our students, applicants are only accepted into the program once arrangements for financial support are fully committed. The Department specifies a minimum level of support of $15,500 per annum, plus an additional amount to cover student fees. The required minimum duration of support is 2 years for the M.Sc. program, 5 years for a student entering as Ph.D.1, and 4 years for a student entering with a previous M.Sc. as Ph.D.2.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are limited, and are awarded on the basis of academic merit. Such awards benefit both students and supervisors (who can thereby allocate more money for research expenses), therefore prospective and current McGill graduate students are expected to apply for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Prospective students should note that separate applications must be made for graduate school admission and scholarship support. Possession of a scholarship increases the probability of acceptance. Many scholarships require Canadian citizenship or Landed Immigrant status.

Applications received by February 1st will be automatically considered for a number of McGill-administered fellowships.

Financial Assistance for NEO (Neotropical Environment Option): Students accepted to the NEO option program are eligible for several entrance fellowships. To be considered for financial assistance, an application must be submitted before February 1st.

McGill Differential Fee Waivers and McGill Graduate Studies Fellowships (MGSF): The Department receives several MGSF and differential fee waivers from the University each year. Fee waivers permit international students to pay the same tuition fees as Canadian students. The MGSF awards are valued at $5,000 each and international students are given first priority in nomination for this award by the department. All eligible international students are automatically considered by the Department. No forms are required.

Other types of Financial Support:
Teaching Assistantships: Graduate students can be partially supported by being appointed as teaching assistants for one or more undergraduate courses. Available positions for the following year (summer, fall and winter terms) are posted by March 15th. There is another posting in October for winter term positions still available.

Graduate student stipends: Graduate students are often supported, in full or in part, by monies from research grants awarded to and controlled by the Thesis Supervisor. These funds can supplement income from scholarships and teaching assistantships. The stipends are classified as “awards” and are not subject to tax and other employment deductions. In some instances the student stipend will come from research contract funding and these students may be required to sign a confidentiality agreement.

M.Sc. Program Requirements

Length of Program
Three full-time terms of resident study at McGill is the minimum time requirement to complete the Master’s degree. The Biology Department offers a summer term so the residence requirement can be completed in one year, if required. The normal and expected duration is 2 years.

Course Requirements
Forty-five credits are required for the M.Sc. degree. Students must complete the courses BIOL 697, -698 and -699 (Master’s Thesis Research 1, 2, 3). These research courses each carry a credit weight of 13 credits. In addition, six credits of courses are required. These courses may be taken in Biology or in other departments, but they must be relevant to the student’s program (language and writing courses are excluded) and they must be graduate level courses at the -500 or higher level. All course selections must be approved by the student’s supervisor. A graduate pass (65% or better) is mandatory for all courses required for the M.Sc. degree.

Thesis
In Biology, the M.Sc. degree is considered to be a research degree and the candidate must present a thesis, containing original contributions to knowledge. The nature of the M.Sc. degree varies considerably throughout the University and it should be clear that requirements in Biology are more stringent than the minimal requirements laid down by the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office.

Candidates entering Ph.D.1 must complete at least three years of full-time study (6 terms) and at least 4 of these terms must be spent at McGill University. A student who has obtained a Master’s degree at McGill, or at an approved institution elsewhere, and is proceeding in the same subject towards a Ph.D. degree may, upon the recommendation of the Graduate Training Committee, enter at the Ph.D.2 level. The normal and expected duration is 4 years. In exceptional cases, 5 or even 6 years are required, but most students are strongly advised to complete the program in 4 years.

Course Requirements
Ph.D. students are required to take 6 credits of courses. These courses may be taken in Biology or in other departments, but they must be relevant to the student’s program (language and writing courses are excluded) and they must be graduate level courses at the -500 or higher level. All course selections must be approved by the student’s supervisor. A graduate pass (65% or better) is mandatory for all courses required for the Ph.D. degree.

Ph.D. Qualifying Examination in Biology (BIOL 700)
The Qualifying Examination (QE) is a formal evaluation of the student’s ability to proceed to the attainment of the Ph.D. It is not a “comprehensive” examination, in so far as this term implies that all areas of biology will be covered. Rather, it is intended that the examination will focus on the subject of the student’s proposed research. The relevant background knowledge in this area, as well as in allied areas, will be ascertained.

Ph.D. Thesis Seminar (BIOL 702)
All Ph.D. students must deliver a research seminar at some time during the academic session (September – April) towards the end of their studies. This is preferably done at least 3 months prior to the anticipated date of the thesis submission. Most students will be registered for this seminar in their third or fourth year of Ph.D. studies. The seminar has two main purposes: (a) to help students sort out their aims, data and interpretations before a friendly, informed audience prior to writing the thesis, and certainly before they have to defend it at the Oral Defense, and (b) to keep the community, especially other graduate students, aware of the work under investigation in the Department. This seminar is not to be regarded as an exam. Nevertheless, it is a requirement for the degree and a grade of “incomplete” will be recorded on the student’s transcript until it is delivered. It is the Thesis Supervisor’s responsibility to notify the Graduate Studies Coordinator that the student has passed the course (i.e. presented the seminar).

Thesis
The Ph.D. is a research degree. It represents high scholastic attainment in a specialized field, demonstrated by independent and original research.

Ph.D. Oral Examination
Ph.D. students are required to defend their thesis in an open forum. Rules for the oral examination are set by the University Graduate and the Postdoctoral Studies Office. A copy of these rules can be obtained from the Graduate Studies Coordinator. The examination consists of a public session with a 15-20 minute summary by the candidate, followed by a period of questioning and a private session in which the Examining Committee makes its judgment.

Seminars
Both Master’s and Doctoral students are expected to participate regularly in one or more of the Department’s journal clubs and seminar series, e.g. Molecular Genetics Seminars; Graduate Students Symposium in Ecology, Evolution, Behaviour, and Conservation; Works in Progress Series (WIPS); Honours Seminars; Aquatic Seminars; Neurobiology Journal Club; Organismal Seminars. All students are required to present a half-hour seminar on their work annually, in an established university seminar series or in a similar public forum. Students may also need to present brief seminar at a conference or departmental symposium.

To facilitate access to Master’s degrees by students with qualifications from foreign universities, the University of Lausanne makes available around ten Master’s grants which are awarded on a competitive basis.

Programmes concerned
Candidates must choose a Master’s programme from among those offered by the UNIL, except the Master of Medicine. The grant may not be used for any complementary studies required to enroll on the Master’s degree and may not be used for EMBAs or Masters of Advanced studies.

Amount and duration of the grant
The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for a duration not exceeding the regulation minimum period of the programme (according to the programme, one-and-a-half years or two years subject to deduction for paid placements or exempt semesters, if any). Abandonment of the programme results in suspension of the grant.

Required conditions

The candidate must be the holder of a degree from a foreign university.
The qualification held by the candidate must be deemed equivalent to the UNIL Bachelor’s degree.

Selection procedure
Candidates complete the “UNIL Master’s Grant” form and submit their application to the Office for socio-cultural affairs (SASC, Unicentre, University of Lausanne, CH-1015 Lausanne, info.sasc@unil.ch) by 15 December 2011 at the latest. The application is examined by the University Rectorate to determine whether the candidate is admissible. In the event of a positive decision, the application is forwarded by the SASC to the UNIL Faculty responsible for the Master’s on which the candidate wishes to be enrolled. The Faculty selects applications and notifies the SASC of its opinion based on the candidate’s qualities, motivation and suitability for the Master’s programme. The SASC forwards shortlisted applications to the selection committee which will award grants to students meeting all criteria according to the available budget.

Decisions are not open to appeal.

Selection criteria
The grants are intended more particularly for students who distinguished themselves in their university studies and who have difficulty meeting their financial needs for the duration of the Master’s. It is however necessary that the candidates have sufficient financial means to support themselves during the complementary studies that may be required prior to enroll on the Master’s degree.

Step 1: Online application

AstroMundus is a 2-years Erasmus Mundus Masters Course (120 ECTS) in Astronomy and Astrophysics offered by a consortium of 5 partner universities (University of Innsbruck, University of Belgrade, University of Goettingen, University of Padova & University of Rome Tor Vergata) in 4 different countries: Austria, Italy, Germany, and Serbia.

Its main objective is to provide top-ranked students with an excellent background in Astrophysics, to introduce them to the world of modern astrophysical research, and foster their future career in this field. At the same time, in the spirit of the Erasmus Mundus programmes, we promote cultural exchanges between Third Country and European students and academics.

AstroMundus students carry out their master studies in at least 2 and up to four of these countries, in a stimulating and scientifically excellent international environment.

The official language of the course is English, but students are given the possibility to learn the languages of the host countries by attending language courses at the partner universities.

Successful students will be awarded a Joint Master Degree by all partner universities they have visited during the Master studies. EM Food of Life is part of the Erasmus Mundus programme initiated by the European Commission to enhance and promote European higher education throughout the world. The two-year Masters Course builts on the expertise of four European universities:

Integration of Animal Science and Food Science and Technology

EM Food of Life is a cross-disciplinary Masters Course in the science of animal-derived foods. In a unique way, the course combines animal science and food science and technology focusing on social as well as cultural and, of course, scientific aspects of the food production chain.

What will I study?

Through the EM Food of Life Masters Course, you will acquire basic theoretical knowledge, practical techonologies, and research and development methodologies preparing you for a career in the food production industries. You will work with topics such as:

How to deal with increased emphasis on product quality, proven health benefits for the consumer
How to improve animal health and welfare reduced environment impact

Two Universities – Double Degree
As an EM Food of Life student, you must study in two of the consortium partner countries. If you hold an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, these two countries must be different from the country in which you obtained your last university degree.

You will also have the opportunity for a shorter study period in Canada, United Kingdom, New Zealand or Italy.

The course is taught in English and leads to the award of a Double Degree (120 ECTS) in animal science and/or food science disciplines, depending on the choice of institutions.

EU funding
Every year 17-20 scholarships are available for Non-EU students (24.000 EUR/year) and EU students (10.000 EUR/year).

Double Degree
The EM Food of Life Masters Course leads to a Double Degree, i.e. two nationally recognised MSc degrees of 120 ECTS.

Non-EU Scholars
Every year, the EM Food of Life Masters Course awards a limited number of scholarships to third-country scholars/guest lecturers, who wish to spend time at one of the four European partner institutions giving lectures, supervising projects, doing research etc.

Asian Public Intellectuals Fellowships is a fellowships program that provides a grant to successful applicants to carry out a project during the fellowship period of one month to one year in a country or countries participating in the API Fellowships Program (currently confined to Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand).

API Mission Statement
Public Intellectuals are those—academics, researchers, media professionals, artists, creative writers, NGO activists, social workers, public servants and others with moral authority—who are committed to working for the betterment of society by applying their professional knowledge, wisdom and experience.

The Nippon Foundation Fellowships for Asian Public Intellectuals (API Fellowships Program) is designed to stimulate the creation of a pool of such intellectuals in the region. They aim to promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals and to contribute to the growth of public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated.

What are the goals of the API Fellowships Program?
The API Fellowships Program aims to:

Create and nurture a community of public intellectuals in Asia;
Promote mutual learning among Asian public intellectuals; and
Contribute to the growth of public spaces in which effective responses to regional needs can be generated.

In selecting Fellows, the API Fellowships Program will favor those whose projects address critical issues in the region, use creative and multidisciplinary approaches, and have some element of advocacy.

What are API Senior Fellowships and API Fellowships? (Categories of Fellowships)
The fellowships are offered under two categories: API Senior Fellowships and API Fellowships.

The API Senior Fellowships are meant for those with an established track record as a public intellectual and who are at least 40 years of age, as of August 31, 2011. The fellowship period should be a minimum of one month to a maximum of twelve months in up to four of the countries participating in the API Fellowships Program (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand).

The API Fellowships are for those under 40 years of age as of August 31, 2011. The fellowship period should be a minimum of four months to a maximum of twelve months in one or two of the countries participating in the API Fellowships Program (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand).

For both categories, the fellowship period must be continuous and the minimum period of visit to a country where the proposed research project/or professional activities are conducted is one month and cannot include the native country or country of residence.

What can I do as a project?
The project may take several forms: a research paper, a film, a series of journalistic articles, data gathering, building networks, a work of art, etc.; but it must fulfill the following three conditions:

It must NOT be part of your regular employment output;
It must contribute to the goals of the API Fellowships Program, and must fit in with the API themes;
It must have a tangible output (a research paper, a film, a photo essay, etc.).

The project must be carried out in one or more of the API Participating Countries (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand), but NOT in your native country or country of residence.

While Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam have become members of the API Fellowships Program from 2010 and Fellowships have been awarded to applicants from these countries, these three countries are not as yet available as the country(ies) to conduct projects.

You will need to identify one institution as the Host Institution in the country/ies where you propose to carry out your research project. The Host Institution will be your institution of affiliation for your fellowship period in the country.

The fellowship can start anytime on or after July 1, 2012 and ends on or by July 31, 2013. You must complete your project within this period.

Who can apply?
Anyone involved in the production and exchange of knowledge or ideas in line with the goals of the API Fellowships Program can apply. This includes academics, researchers, media professionals, artists, writers, NGO workers, social workers, public servants, and others who work for the betterment of society.

You will need sufficient knowledge of the English language to conduct your project and to share the results with the wider audience afterwards.

General eligibility for both the API Senior and API Fellowships

Applicants must hold the nationality or proper residence status of one of the five Participating Countries and reside in the country (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand) at the time of the application;
Applicants must attend the interview at the designated date and place;
Applicants must propose research projects and/or professional activities which start after July 1, 2012 and should be completed on or by the end of July 2013;
Applicants must have a basic knowledge of English. An ability to speak a language/s of the country/ies where the proposed research project and/or professional activities are conducted will be an asset; and
Applicants must be based in the region/country and will continue to be so in the future.
When selected, they must attend the orientation in February/March 2012. Absence from the orientation may cause the cancellation of the selection.

Eligibility for the API Senior Fellowships
In addition to the general eligibility above, the applicants for the API Senior Fellowships must:

Be 40 years of age or more as of August 31, 2011 (exceptions may be made);
Have the ability and experience to conduct research projects and/or professional activities in the Participating Countries (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand) other than his/her native country or country of residence;

What is the API Community?
The API Community consists of
(1) all recipients of the API Senior Fellowships or the API Fellowships, who have finished their fellowship activities and participated in the API Regional Workshop, and

This growing community now numbers more than 300 individuals of varied backgrounds, but with a shared commitment. Members meet in local and cross-country functions, as well as through informal networks and collaborative projects at the national and the regional levels.

What does the API Fellowships Program provide?

How are API Fellows chosen?
In each Participating Country (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand), there is a selection committee comprised of established public intellectuals. This committee evaluates all the applications, invites a shortlist for interview, and sends its recommendations to an International Selection Committee which makes the final decision. The selection procedure is confidential.

What is the schedule for the selection process?

The application period is from July 1, 2011 to August 31, 2011.
Interviews will take place in September/October 2011. There will be no make-up interview if the applicant is not able to attend the interview on the designated date. Therefore, those who cannot be present on the interview day will be automatically dropped from the selection process.
The results will be announced in February 2012.

Selected Fellows will be required:

What can I do as a project?

It must NOT be part of your regular employment output;
It must contribute to the goals of the API Fellowships Program, and must fit in with the API themes;
It must have a tangible output (a research paper, a film, a photo essay, etc.).
The project must be carried out in one or more of the API Participating Countries (Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand), but NOT in your native country or country of residence.
While Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam have become members of the API Fellowships Program from 2010 and Fellowships have been awarded to applicants from these countries, these three countries are not as yet available as the country(ies) to conduct projects.
You will need to identify one institution as the Host Institution in the country/ies where you propose to carry out your research project. The Host Institution will be your institution of affiliation for your fellowship period in the country.
The fellowship can start anytime on or after July 1, 2012 and ends on or by July 31, 2013. You must complete your project within this period.
Who can apply?
Anyone involved in the production and exchange of knowledge or ideas in line with the goals of the API Fellowships Program can apply. The Sawiris Scholarships promote doctoral research for the benefit of developing countries. The projects have to be innovative and develop a method or product, which is directly relevant for improving the livelihoods of poor people in developing countries.

Deadline for the next submission of concept notes is 31 October 2011.
Deadline for the submission of full project proposals by candidates admitted to the second stage of the selection process is 15 February of the subsequent year.

Eligibility
To be admitted to the selection process, the application has to fulfil the following requirements:

The candidate

Preference will be given to citizens of least developed countries and other low-income countries according to the OECD classification.
The entrance requirements for doctoral studies at the ETH Zurich have to be fulfilled.
Experience in the selected research area is required.

The research project

The proposal is of high scientific quality.
The research topic is innovative and relevant for development.
The ecological, socio-economic and cultural context has been taken into account.
Reasonable results can be expected in the given timeframe.
The expected impact of the research is high for the intended target group.

The partnership

Projects involving a research partner from a developing country have to be based on the KFPE principles.
All partners have been involved in project formulation and development.
All partners make a substantial in-kind or cash commitment.
The project is integrated into the general activities of the involved institutions.
Preference will be given to projects with partners in least developed countries and other low-income countries according to the OECD classification.

Application procedure
The application procedure consists of the two following steps:

First step – The candidate has to submit a concept note (details see below) to the North-South Centre, Patricia Heuberger-Meyer at pheuberger[at]ethz.ch. The deadline for submitting concept notes is October 31. Only concept notes fulfilling all indicated requirements will be admitted to the first selection. They will be evaluated by the selection committee with regard to its suitability for the Sawiris Scholarships.

Second step – Candidates whose concept note has been accepted by the selection committee are entitled to elaborate a full proposal (details see below). The proposal has to be submitted to the North-South Centre by the supervising ETH professor. The deadline is February 15 of the subsequent year.

Concept note

The proposed research has to be concerned with the development of a method or product, which is directly relevant to poor people in developing countries.
The research topic has to be within the thematic scope of ETH Zurich.
A letter of support by the supervising ETH professor has to be provided.

The Amelia Earhart Fellowship program helps talented women, pursuing advanced studies in the typically male-dominated fields of aerospace-related sciences and engineering, achieve their educational goals. The Fellowship enables these women to invest in state-of-the-art computers to conduct their research, purchase expensive books and resource materials, and participate in specialized studies around the globe. Amelia Earhart Fellows have gone on to become astronauts, aerospace engineers, astronomers, professors, geologists, business owners, heads of companies, even Secretary of the US Air Force.

Established in 1938 in honor of famed pilot and Zontian, Amelia Earhart, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship is awarded annually to women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering. The Fellowship of US$10,000, awarded to 35 Fellows around the globe each year, may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees in these fields.

ELIGIBILITY
Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record in the field of aerospace-related sciences and aerospace-related engineering are eligible. Please note that post-doctoral research programs are not eligible for the Fellowship. Members and employees of Zonta International or the Zonta International Foundation are also not eligible to apply for the Fellowship. Pada tahun akademik 2011/2012 duduk pada semester V atau VII
Belum bekerja dan tidak sedang menerima beasiswa dari intitusi lain
IPK minimal 2,80

The MDIS Merit Scholarship is an initiative aimed at providing high-calibre students with the opportunity to develop to their full potential. It offers scholarships to outstanding students pursuing their studies with MDIS.
MDIS Merit Scholarship Application Rules

The MDIS Merit Scholarship is solely offered to candidates who wish to enroll for MDIS full-time or part-time Advanced Diplomas, Bachelor’s Degrees and Master’s Degrees.
The Scholarship does not carry a work bond and for every successful applicant, the following are available:
- Partial scholarships for Master’s Degrees valued at SGD 10,000 each
- Partial scholarships for Bachelor’s Degrees valued at SGD 10,000 each
- Partial scholarships for Advanced Diplomas valued at SGD 3,000 each
- Partial scholarships for Diplomas valued at SGD 3,000 each
Eligible local and international candidates of all years of study and from all schools can apply, subject to selection approval. There is no charge levied for application.

The closing date for the scholarship application is 31 August 2011. Applications received after this date will not be accepted. Shortlisted candidates will be notified through email or post and will subsequently be required to undertake a qualifying admission test at a later informed date, time and venue.
The Scholarship Selection Committee will select and assess candidates based on their academic merits. Additional consideration may be given for leadership qualities, career ambitions and participation in extra-curricular activities.
Each scholarship is tenable only for the academic years for which it is awarded and is not transferable from one academic programme to another.

Bersama ini diberitahukan bahwa mulai tahun anggaran 2011, disamping beasiswa Supersemar yang diberikan reguler sebesar 150,000/bulan, Yayasan Supersemar menyelenggarakan program baru pemberian beasiswa yaitu “Beasiswa Unggulan Supersemar” bagi 170 orang mahasiswa dengan nominal beasiswa sebesar Rp. 10.000.000,00/mahasiswa/tahun terhitung mulai tanggal 1 Juni 2011 s.d 30 Mei 2012.
Dengan anggaran yang tersedia dan untuk pemerataan, maka alokasi Beasiswa Unggulan Supersemar diberikan kepada seluruh Perguruan Tinggi Negeri di bawah naungan Kementrian Pendidikan Nasional dan Kementrian Agama Republik Indonesia.
Alokasi Beasiswa Unggulan tahun 2011 untuk Universitas Brawijaya diberikan bagi 3 (tiga) mahasiswa dengan persyaratan dan prosedur sebagaimana terlampir.
Persyaratan:

BUS diberikan bagi mahasiswa calon sarjana/S1 yang telah duduk di semester 3 (tiga), memiliki Indeks prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) minimal 3,5 selama 2 semester berturut-turut (semester 1 dan 2);
Berasal dari keluarga yang tidak mampu/kurang mampu secara ekonomi;
Aktif dalam kegiatan kemahasiswaan atau memiliki prestasi dalam bidang tertentu di tingkat daerah/nasional, seperti sains, olahraga, seni/budaya, dll;
Tidak memperoleh beasiswa dari lembaga/instansi yang lain.

Prosedur:

Seleksi Calon Penerima BUS dilaksanakan oleh Perguruan Tinggi masing-masing berdasarkan persyaratan di atas;
Daftar nama Calon Penerima BUS dikirimkan ke Yayasan Supersemar paling lambat tanggal 1 September 2011 dengan dilengkapi berkas sebagai berikut
1. Fotocopy IPK selama 2 (dua) semester berturut-turut (semester 1 dan 2);
2. Surat Keterangan Penghasilan Orangtua dari instansi/lembaga/tempat bekerja orangtua atau Surat Keterangan Tidak Mampu dari Lurah/Kepala Desa tempat domisili keluarga/orang tua mahasiswa yang bersangkutan;
3. Fotocopy Kartu mahasiswa, KTP mahasiswa, dan Kartu Keluarga dari orangtua bersangkutan;
4. Daftar Riwayat Hidup sebagaimana format terlampir;
5. Daftar kegiatan kemahasiswaan dan prestasi bidang tertentu yang pernah diperoleh sebagaimana formulir terlampir dilengkapi dengan fotocopy Surat keterangan, Sertifikat, atau Piagam penghargaan;

Undergraduate Business Scholarships for International Students, Australian Catholic University

The Faculty of Business is offering a scholarship to all international students commencing an undergraduate business degree in 2011.
The scholarship has a maximum value of AU $2000 and will be awarded in 2 stages:

Tuition fees payable for the 1st semester will be reduced by AU $1000 at the time of payment.
Upon successful completion of 4 subjects in the first semester of study, a further fee reduction of AU $1000 will be applied for the second semester fees.

The scholarship will not be refunded in the event of withdrawal from ACU and will not be converted to cash payments. The scholarship only applies to Bachelor Degrees offered by the Faculty of Business at ACU.

International Students Academic Merit Scholarship, East Tennessee State University, USA

The International Students Academic Merit Scholarship is open to new international students seeking a graduate or undergraduate degree. The scholarship covers 50 percent of the total of in and out-of-state tuition and maintenance fees only. No additional fees or costs are covered. The award is available for:

Eight semesters for undergraduate recipients
Five semesters for recipients seeking a Master’s degree, or commensurate with the length of the program.
Eight semesters for doctoral students, or commensurate with the length of the program.
Scholarship can be applied to summer semesters.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants Must:

Be admitted to ETSU as full-time, degree-seeking students
Have or plan to have an F-1 or J-1 student visa
Have a demonstrated record of academic achievement
Fill out the scholarship application form.
Students are encouraged to apply as soon as they are admitted to ETSU.

When to Apply
Completed applications, including letters of recommendation, need to be submitted by the following dates:

Fall semester deadline: no later than June 1st
Spring semester deadline: no later than October 1st

Students are encouraged to submit scholarship applications as soon as they are admitted to ETSU. An application cannot be reviewed until the applicant is admitted to the university. Applications received after the deadline will not be reviewed.
Additional Conditions

Recipients must maintain full-time status.
Undergraduate recipients must maintain a 2.75 grade point average in order to continue receiving the scholarship. Graduate recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
The scholarship only applies to in and out-of-state tuition and maintenance fees. Recipients will be required to pay other fees such as program fees, course fees, housing costs, and medical insurance costs.
Recipients continuing from a bachelor’s to a master’s degree program must reapply for the scholarship.

Students who are NOT eligible:

Students continuing from an ETSU bachelor’s degree program to a second ETSU bachelor’s degree program
Graduate students receiving a graduate assistantship or tuition scholarship
Students receiving any other ETSU tuition scholarship
Students applying for the M.D. and Pharm. D. programs
